DUNLAP -- For the fourth time in program history, the Alleman girls' tennis team captured a sectional championship. For the first time ever, the Pioneers did so by qualifying all their entrants for the state meet.
Alleman had both doubles teams in the championship match and also sent both singles players to the third-place match at the Class 1A Dunlap Sectional. That helped the Pioneers score 31 points -- nine more than runner-up Dunlap -- and secure their third consecutive sectional plaque.
"It's a nice trend to have," Alleman coach Leslie Hird said of the third sectional title in as many years. "The team is super excited. Our goal at the beginning of the season was getting everybody to state. That happened. That's awesome."
Two doubles teams and two singles players are heading to state for Alleman, which had the most sectional points in Class 1A.
"It will be a great trip for us knowing that we're all going to play," Hird said. "They are in it together. They are pumped."
Junior Noely Baumann and sophomore Lauren Hird topped seniors Mary Grevas and Ellie Rouse, 6-4, 6-2, in the doubles finals. The pair avenged a loss to Grevas and Rouse in last week's Western Big 6 Conference finale.
Baumann and Hird dropped seven games in four straight-set victories.
"It felt good to come out on top," Lauren Hird said.
Sophomore Lily Schoeck earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Brenna Hogan in the third-place match. Schoeck suffered a 4-6, 6-3, 0-6 semifinal loss to eventual champion and Dunlap senior Emma Templin in the semifinals. Hogan dropped a 6-4, 6-1 semifinal match to Peoria Notre Dame senior Lizzie McClure.
The state tournament, contested for the first time with two classes, begins Thursday in the Chicago suburbs.
"We want to play well as a team," Baumann said. "We have to take our 'A' game."
